Trombonist Lezaam Beets has been living and freelancing in Amsterdam Netherlands since 2021 when he moved here to study at the Conservatory of Amsterdam. Since then he has performed and recorded in numerous projects including New Cool Collective, Jazz orchestra of the Concertgebouw, Nederlands Jeugd Jazz Orkest and many more. Lezaam’s music is a exploration of space and sound expressing life experience and questioning personal growth and wanting to become a better person. By combining jazz traditions with West African rhythmic languages, the music of Lezaam positions itself within a contemporary, intercultural musical practice. It reflects the ongoing evolution of jazz as a living form - one that absorbs influences, honors its roots, and speaks to present-day questions. The music contributes to the Dutch and international music landscape by presenting an authentic, personal voice that values collaboration, diversity, and artistic depth over genre boundaries.
