Mixed Feelings | Roselien

A special guest-mix series where DJs are invited to create a soundtrack for tomorrow's days. Next up: Brussels-based vocalist, producer, and DJ Roselien aka Rosie From The Block.

Every Mixed Feelings podcast is accompanied by a few questions that provide a little insight into the DJ and the mix they've prepared for us and for you.

Which feelings do we find bottled in this mix?

The songs I've chosen combine dope grooves with rich and warm chord progressions and harmonies. So to me, there is a lot of power in this mix combined with harmonies for the soul. I would say toughness goes hand in hand with softness in the tracks I've picked. So you can find encouragement and motivation in this mix as well as comfort and solace. Hard to put specific feelings on it but I would say strength and melancholy.

What message does the music you play convey?

I guess each track has its own message to offer to the listener, there isn't one single message in the music I pick and play. In the end, music can be perceived by the listener in many different ways and whatever the listener wants to see/hear in it determines the message that track holds for that particular person.

How is the mix reflecting your current music taste?

I love groove-oriented soulful music. I don't restrict myself to one genre, I listen to many different genres but I love it when it's soulful, rhythmical, and intelligent music which essentially is black music.

Who should release a new album/EP already?

Erykah Badu, The Emotions, Renato Paris, and Yoofee!

What's magical about music?

Music is our connection with the universe. I receive musical ideas from the universe I put into my tracks and I can connect with the universe by listening to music since I believe musical ideas come from a higher source.

What is your main source for finding new music?

Bandcamp, Social Media, Discogs.

If the mix would be a soundtrack, what (kind of) movie/video/audio-visual content would support it best?

A walk through different boroughs in London and shots taken from the overground lines in London.
