Next up we will be screening 'Black Brazilian Soul' by director Flavio Frederico from 2026. This documentary, originally titled “Alma Negra, Do Quilombo Ao Baile”, is an ample immersion in the Afro-Brazilian universe through Soul music, from the emergence of the genre in the late 1960s and its popularity in the music industry, to its peak with the famous black balls in Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo. Intellectuals such as Beatriz Nascimento, Lélia Gonzalez and Edneia Gonçalves talk in the documentary about the importance of these parties as spaces of resistance and affirmation of black identity in Brazil, linking quilombola traditions with contemporary urban culture.
