Recognized as one of Germany’s most in-demand producers, the self-taught bedroom beatmaker has built his reputation led by his seductive blend of Lo-Fi, soul, and jazz-influenced grooves. Exposed to music from a young age, FloFilz grew up in Belgium before moving to Aachen, Germany where he studied the violin and classical music, while also playing in orchestras. In addition to his parents, who were both musicians, he cites hip-hop icons like A Tribe Called Quest, J Dilla, and Madlib as his key influences.
Taking great inspiration from London's Jazz scene he has previously collaborated with the likes of Alfa Mist, Barney Artist, Biig Piig, and K, Le Maestro. 200M streams later, Flo has evolved to become one of the most recognized LoFi-turned-HiFi producers.
After meeting at the launch party for Flo’s ’Transit’ album in 2019, Flo and Blue Lab re-connected for a London studio session where ‘Skybox’ was created. The immensely talented UK duo's recent album ‘Motherland Journey’ strengthened their reputation as one of the best jazz cats in the scene.
The sunny and playful beat Flo & Blue Lab crafted together is a wonderful ride, merging flavors of avant-jazz, boom bap, and instrumental soul. 'Skybox' follows four already amazing single releases from the album, and the groovy 'Uteki' with Alfa Mist and the 'Sensitive' joint with Jerome Thomas have been on some serious heavy rotation around here.
The anticipated ‘Close Distance’ album also includes features from KeepVibesNear, Summers Sons & C.Tappin, Dal & Hunter Rose. Full album is scheduled for release on April 8th on the Cologne-based Melting Pot Music label, so stay tuned and pre-order the vinyl. Also, if you're in the area, try to catch Flo at Carharrt’s Berlin and Cologne stores next month.
