Mixed Feelings | Lysah

A special guest-mix series where DJs are invited to create a soundtrack for tomorrow's days. Next up: The Nijmegen-based disco queen Lysah.

Every Mixed Feelings podcast is accompanied by a few questions that provide a little insight into the DJ and the mix they've prepared for us and for you.

Which feelings do we find bottled in this mix?

Feelings of attraction, falling in love, excitement, uncertainty, rejection, restoration and finally finding back love. The mix is a soulful and sensual ride through all stages you experience in love, to listen to on a hot summer eve.

What message does the music you play convey?

I'm always looking for melodies that trigger something in me. Every melody does something different and that's what makes it so exciting. Especially to share them with other people and see what it does to them. In essence it's very simple, the music I play is meant to surprise people, make them happy and let them dance.

How is the mix reflecting your current music taste?

I really have a love for boogie. That's kind of becoming my thing. Groove, synthesizers and solid drum machines. You can find a lot of soulful 80's boogie music in the mix I've made, together with some disco and synth-pop.

Who should release a new album/EP already?

Definitely Imagination! Such a legendary band from the 80's. I would really love to see a new crazy over-the-top record cover from them again haha.

What's magical about music?

Music brings people together, silences their thoughts and brings them into the subconscious. It isn't for no reason that the world's greatest idols are musicians.

What is your main source for finding new music?

In the past few months I started collecting vinyl and I'm really enjoying finding new music by checking the cover of the records and let them surprise me when I play it. They feel like hidden pieces of art! Besides I use Bandcamp, especially for edits, YouTube, streaming platforms and other dj friends for inspiration!

If the mix would be a soundtrack, what (kind of) movie/video/audio-visual content would support it best?

I don't have a specific movie in mind but it would perfectly fit in a sappy romcom.

Thanks so much for having me on Mixed Feelings! Loved it to put together a mix with a theme. Luckily it was easy for me to select some good love songs out there ;) Hope you enjoy! <3
