Mixed Feelings | Mabes

A special guest-mix series where DJs are invited to create a soundtrack for tomorrow's days. Next up: This next journey is the first mix by our very own writer Mabes. She went deep into her upbringing on triphop and downtempo tunes, perfect to start your week with.

Every Mixed Feelings podcast is accompanied by a few questions that provide a little insight into the DJ and the mix they've prepared for us and for you.

Which feelings do we find bottled in this mix?

Truly mixed, first set and didn't really know what to play - so here's a few sounds I like.

What message does the music you play convey?

Hopefully myself - I try to express my roots in UK dub and trip hop, and love of more instrumental sounds, whilst also featuring my undeniable exposure to a slightly techy Amsterdam.

How is the mix reflecting your current music taste?

My taste never changes, I just learn more.

Who should release a new album/EP already?

Hoping for some more dub tracks from Mick Jones and Paul Simonon at some point.

What's magical about music?

How it builds community.

What is your main source for finding new music?

Streaming services, Bandcamp, Social Media.

If the mix would be a soundtrack, what (kind of) movie/video/audio-visual content would support it best?

Probably an hour-long montage of me trying to leave my house without forgetting anything.
