A special guest-mix series where DJs are invited to create a soundtrack for tomorrow's days. Next up: The Portuguese Amsterdam-based DJ Remis Doussos recorded a mix with some of his favorite broken beat tunes. Enjoy the ride!
Every Mixed Feelings podcast is accompanied by a few questions that provide a little insight into the DJ and the mix they've prepared for us and for you.
Which feelings do we find bottled in this mix?
A combination of some uplifting foot stomping energy mixed with that sort of nostalgia one gets watching the sunset after sunbathing the whole day.
What message does the music you play convey?
The positivity of broken beat rhythms and melodies always manage to inspire some sense of hope and calmness in me, while making want to move my body. The syncopation in the beats are a reminder of how sometimes less is more if done correctly.
How is the mix reflecting your current music taste?
This mix is a selection of some records i have been collecting over the years, so in some ways it doesn't represent completely my current music taste, but the recent warm sunny days did made me select this specific picks.
Who should release a new album/EP already?
I would love to hear a new album from Lone. He's one of these producers with a magical touch that soothes my soul in a very special way.
What's magical about music?
As much cliché as it may sound, music's ability to change someone's mood or to transport us to memories is the most fascinating and magical aspect of music to me.
What is your main source for finding new music?
Streaming services, Bandcamp, Social Media, YouTube and its horrible algorithm, Discogs.
If the mix would be a soundtrack, what (kind of) movie/video/audio-visual content would support it best?
Definitely a beach type of party with people dancing barefoot, drinking caipirinhas, with a band playing in the background.
I believe that variety is the spice of life. From observing some of my favorite musicians and trying to know and understand the root of things, I realized that releasing myself from the shackles of being stuck to genres is a truly liberating and honest way to experience art, free from judgement and preconceptions. With this to say, i want to give a special thank you to all the Steppin' crew, curating amazing events and nurturing our ears with such beautiful music, but also to everyone who keeps supporting, buying music and booking small artists to share their vision <3
